More about the Authors
NICHELLE SIMON is a coach, motivational speaker, former professional ice hockey player, a 2-time American Ninja warrior and a breast cancer survior. A lifelong athlete with a striking passion for hockey, she discovered the sport on the sun-scorched roller hockey courts of South Florida. She was 11 years old at the time and ice rinks in the southern U.S. — let alone hockey guidebooks for girls — were in short supply. Nichelle moved rather slowly into the competitive realm of ice hockey, but at age 17 she was accepted to play hockey for one of the most prestigious preparatory hockey schools in the country, Shattuck St. Mary’s. She went on to play NCAA hockey, and in 2005, Nichelle began coaching while continuing to hone her playing skills. Setbacks are part of every journey, and at the age of 35, Nichelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the ultimate feat of resiliency and determination, she not only beat cancer, but became the oldest rookie to ever sign a professional contract to play in the National Women’s Hockey League. The year was 2019, and she was 36 years old. Nichelle has since devoted her life to showing girls how strong they can become. She now coaches girls on and off the ice to help them unlock their athletic potential.
