More about Strength, Speed, Agility & Coordination
Strength, speed, agility, and coordination are the foundation of elite hockey (and all sports) performance. Strength powers explosive strides, battles along the boards, and shot velocity. Speed allows players to break away, react quickly, and keep up with the fast pace of the game. Agility enables sharp cuts, quick transitions, and the ability to evade defenders. Coordination ties it all together, ensuring precise stickhandling, smooth skating, and accurate shooting. Developing these key areas off the ice directly enhances on-ice performance, giving players the edge they need to compete at their best.
Coordination is especically underestimated and under trained in the sports world. Coordination is your ability to use multiple parts of your body together in an effective and meaningful way. These skills promote focus, control and spatial awareness of yourself, other people and other objects around you. Enhance your hand-eye coordination, develop the ability to move different parts of your body independently, and learn to focus on one task while executing another.
I feel my success of becoming the oldest rookie ever in the NWHL in 2019-2020 was due to my overall athleticism. This originated from playing many sports as a child, teaching me how to control my body in many different kinds of situations.
